My Summer Gals

Summer is at an end and Fall on its way in. The  air at night is                         starting to smell different, hinting at winters bastard arrival.

Back to School

This Summer was one of events. I broke my arm, got mugged while visiting my hometown of Philly , went to my Grandfathers wake but missed the funeral (broke my arm), experienced food poisoning not once but twice, and spent a lot of time in bed thinking of things I wish I were doing with my time. I did however have the pleasure to work with several models, so it wasn’t a total shit Sumner.

The first model I had the pleasure to work with this summer was the beautiful Thelma ‘LouiseDiamond’  from my old stomping grounds, Philadelphia. Louise, like many of the other  models I’ve met, is a practicing photographer.

In addition to modeling and photography, Louise has her hands in several artistic jars, painting, drawing, wheel throwing (pottery), singing, digital retouching and blowing minds left and right. Sadly, I only got to spend a very brief one day with Louise, but the short time spent was just splendid.

Number two a young gal by the name of Teresa aka ‘Manchester’ from Los Angeles. Teresa was the first model I photographed who had tattoos, lots of ‘em. Generally I don’t work with those who are all inked up, for I feel it draws attention away from the subject, but Manchester’s look, her style was enough for me to make an exception.  On the subject  tattoos Manchester says  ”If my tattoos are a problem then you are not the photographer for me. “

Three, 3, the magic number three, the number I used to have an Obsessive Compulsive fixation with, was my  dear friend Miss Amanda, better known as ‘Nettie R. Harris’ from New Orleans. Amanda was only in town for 3 short days before heading down to New York.

Nettie has had a busy last year, working with such notable photographers as Ryan Mcginley, Terry Richardson & me.  Nettie has a different look than most models of today, an au naturel beauty  that she owns and wears well, a refreshing break from the hairless models that have for some reason become the norm. (probably some Freudian shit…)

“…my drive, my passion for modeling lies in its movement, its power, its ability to create, its grace, it’s beauty and my desire to be apart of art, a moment of history.”- Nettie R. Harris

The last of the fantastic four women I spent the Summer with was Mrs. Meghan Claire from Santa Cruz. In addition to being a wonderful model to work with, Mrs. Claire was a wonderful guest to host.

Meghan studied anthropology at the University of California in Santa Cruz. When not traveling the earth modeling for photographers, Meghan is working as an archaeologist or primatology research assistant out in the field. Meghan makes pictures as well, using a Rollicord and Holga, creating some beautiful work along her travels.

Now with the women and summer gone, I am left to my lonesome once again. Till next summer I’ll try to keep myself busy.

The Breaking of my Humerus is not Humorous…

This past Saturday, August 13th, the day of my Grandfathers funeral, I foolishly decided to show my little sister a thing or two on her new skateboard. You see, back in the day, ages 10-16, I was a little hell raiser with a skateboard and unattended homework .

X-Rays

I gave up skateboarding when I got “the fear“, going home when it came to the sage saying “go big or go home“.  I focused my attention on playing guitar, painting & photography as well as other extracurricular activities a high school might fall into.

Manipulated X-Ray #1

Since those days of yesteryear, I’ve put on a pound or two and my center of gravity thus shifted. The muscle memory of doing a kick-flip or busting a nollie 360 flip are still there, but like I said, it had been a while and time is a cruel mistress.

Manipulated X-Ray #2

I went to Mass. General Hospital this past Tuesday to sit down with one of the top Orthopedic Surgeons to see whether surgery would be needed and what the future held for me and my broke ass arm.

Manipulated X-Ray #3

Turns out that the breaking of the Humerus bone is one of the more common breaks one can fall fate to. Luckily no surgery is needed. The broken bone now inclosed by a brace, my forearm in a sling. Healing of my busted wing is estimated at 8-10 weeks.

Manipulated X-Ray #4

Needles to say, this whole breaking of a bone has really slowed me down and thrown my daily/weekly routine off. I have been working on several stories though on how I broke my arm in response to people inquiring. So far I only have bar fight, free climbing, and the sad truth, skateboarding.

Fred the Donkey

Last night, my ears had the pleasure of hearing the sweet, smooth cowboy tunes of Fred the Donkey.

Set List

Heres how it was….  The scene was the children’s play place downstairs at Life Alive, a health conscious restaurant located in Central Square, Cambridge MA.  The players were Jesse Gallagher on classical guitar, R.g. Gallagher on electric guitar, Chris Leir on Drums and Rex Dart on stand up bass.

Chris on Drums

If you get the chance, check out the tunes of Fred the Donkey and get some sweet nourishment at Life Alive.

Attached below are some links, the first being to some video of F.t.D.‘s live performance.

The Internet: Just Part of the Game

Before 2007 I didn’t even own a computer, didn’t have any web presence except for a flickr account. I would use my parents PC, which the whole family used, and needless to say, had a virus every other week and was a PC.

Now I spend more time than I ever thought I would on the computer, updating and posting, checking and emailing, etc. One day I hope the internet and computers will become less a part of my daily routine and I can just focus on my craft. Until than, here is some of my web presence. Enjoy.

Home:

You can learn a great deal  about someone by seeing inside their living quarters. By what one chooses to put on display, be it on the walls or on a shelf, their common area versus their bedrooms, a person’s home can be an extension of its inhabitants.

Art Books & Novels

Desk #2

I don’t know about everyone else, but I love exploring other people’s living spaces. Whether or not they have a museum like space, or a minimalist vibe, I like to take a look around.

Desk #1

Cameras

I can’t seem to help but amount and collect things or stuff, things I don’t really need, but things I feel will at some point in time serve a purpose, for when I get a creative itch, be it my interest in playing music or dabbling in other art mediums. Goodwill and other such second-hand stores are dangerous territory for my wallet and storage space.

So these are my living quarters. I’ve moved around a few times in my life, have what the doctors like to call A.D.D, and I’m known to be a bit “artsy”, so making my bedroom and living quarters “my” own personal space has always been important to me.
